Natural Resource Specialist Carlsbad, New Mexico Summary Explore a new career with the BLM - where our people are our most precious resource. This position is a Natural Resources Specialist , GS-0401-07/09 working in Carlsbad, New Mexico for the Division of Resources. There will be one position filled at either the GS-07 or GS-09 level. We expect to fill one vacancies at this time; however, additional positions may be filled from this announcement if they become available. Duties Preparation and monitors plans to assess, improve or expand natural resources, and to alleviate or eliminate detrimental management impacts created by other resource uses upon the landscape. Conduct environmental impact assessments (EIA) to evaluate potential harm from new projects or activities. Use environmental modeling tools to predict the potential effects of pollutants or resource extraction. Conduct geological surveys to identify potential deposits of fluid minerals, geothermal reservoirs, or natural gas fields. Evaluate the size, quality, and commercial viability of identified mineral or resource deposits. Ensure that development projects comply with environmental regulations, land use laws, and resource extraction standards. Monitor the progress of ongoing tasks and overall project milestones to ensure that deadlines are being met. Determine the tools and techniques for data collection (e.g., surveys, experiments, observations) and ensure they are valid and reliable.
