About this role
Social Marketing Lead, Japan Tokyo, Japan, Tokyo, Japan About the role We're hiring a Social Marketing Manager to lead OpenAI's social presence in Japan across both consumer and business audiences. In this role, you will define how OpenAI shows up in one of our most important international markets-shaping our voice, building locally relevant storytelling, and ensuring we move with speed, quality, and cultural fluency across platforms. You will operate as both a strategic lead and hands-on builder: setting direction while also executing day-to-day work, especially in the early stages of building our Japan social presence. You will partner closely with global and local teams across product, research, communications, and marketing to bring our work to life in ways that resonate deeply with Japan audiences. Key responsibilities - Lead the development and execution of Japan's social marketing strategy across priority platforms (e.g., X, Instagram, YouTube, LinkedIn), covering both consumer and business audiences. - Operate as a hands-on social lead, managing day-to-day publishing, editorial planning, copywriting, and rapid response-especially around launches and key moments. - Set up and scale social channels and systems from the ground up where needed, establishing strong foundations for long-term growth. - Translate global priorities, product launches, and brand narratives into locally resonant social storytelling that reflects Japan's cultural context. - Lead high-visibility moments including product announcements, research updates, and company news-ensuring accuracy, quality, and alignment across teams. - Partner cross-functionally with product, research, communications, marketing, and policy teams to align messaging and navigate nuanced or sensitive topics.
