Supervisory Clinical Lab Scientist (Specimen Acquisition, Send Outs and Phlebotomy) Long Beach, California Summary This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific eligibility requirements per VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program Approval, award amount (up to $200,000) & eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after review of the EDRP application. Former EDRP participants ineligible to apply. Duties The Supervisory Clinical Laboratory Scientist has full supervisory responsibility for a large staff of non-supervisory personnel in the Specimen Acquisition, Send Outs & Phlebotomy department within Pathology & Laboratory services. The incumbent performs the full range of supervisory duties, including but not limited to: Responsible for the day-to-day operational oversight, technical guidance and direct supervision of staff within the laboratory pre-analytic (specimen collection and processing) and referral lab send outs functions. Accountable for directing departmental workflow, ensuring staff competency, and maintaining the highest standards of quality, accuracy, and customer service within the assigned laboratory service. Serves as primary technical resource for service-related issues within laboratory processing providing expertise in the areas of customer service, practitioner support, problem resolution, and specimen requirements and handling. Provide program consultation in areas of specimen collection, phlebotomy, send out, quality control/assurance, records control, proficiency testing, inspection, and accreditation to all levels of the organization, in addition to having general knowledge of more difficult, complex, unique and/or emerging
