About this role
Physician - Pulmonary and Sleep Medicine East Orange, New Jersey Summary The Section of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine within the VA New Jersey Health Care System (VANJHCS) is seeking a physician with specialized training and expertise in adult Pulmonary and Sleep Medicine to provide ambulatory clinical services at the East Orange campus. The selected physician will join a high-performing team dedicated to delivering exceptional care to our nation's Veterans. Duties Provide outpatient pulmonary and sleep medicine services, including evaluation and longitudinal management of patients with a broad range of pulmonary and sleep disorders. Diagnose, treat, and manage patients with sleep-disordered breathing and coexisting sleep disorders such as narcolepsy/idiopathic hypersomnia, restless legs syndrome, or chronic insomnia. Identify and manage sleep-related hypoxemia and initiate appropriate interventions. Order, interpret, and integrate diagnostic sleep testing and relevant laboratory evaluations. Complete quality assurance reviews of sleep studies and ensure integrity of sleep data. Prescribe and manage medications used to treat sleep disorders, including hypnotics, stimulants, and agents such as Xyrem or Xywav, in accordance with VA policy. Participate in optional inpatient pulmonary/critical care coverage at East Orange, if desired. Participate in administrative assignments, program development, and quality initiatives as directed by the Section Chief of Pulmonary Medicine or Chief of Medicine Service. Revise work schedules and assignments on short notice to meet frequent, abrupt, and unpredictable changes in prescribed workloads and deadlines. Participate in various facility programs designed to enhance and improve the delivery of patient care services, such as Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI)
