About this role

ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION SPECIALIST Jacksonville, North Carolina Summary You will serve as a ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION SPECIALIST in the Environment Affairs Division, Installation & Environment Department of MARINE CORPS AIR STATION, NEW RIVER. Duties You will manages the storage, collection, identification, transportation and disposal of Hazardous Waste aboard the installation to include tenant commands. You will maintain liaison and provide technical assistance as required to HW generators. You will set environmental audit and oversight policy, maintaining a consistent approach for carrying out inspections and advisory activities. You will design specific environmental compliance audits, directs technicians and collateral duty personnel in conducting audits, and tracks results with statistical methods consistent with principles of the Environmental Management System (EMS). You will maintain an updated knowledge of frequently-changing, complex policies, technologies and regulations as they pertain to hazardous materials, hazardous waste, and pollution prevention. You will recommend process and procedure modification to incorporate revised requirements. You will be responsible for the installations waste minimization program and, as such administers a comprehensive program to minimize the volumes and toxicity of HW generated. Education In lieu of specialized experience listed in the Qualifications section, applicants may qualify for the GS-11 position based on education OR equivalent combination of experience and education as follows: Have successfully completed a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree. OR Have successfully completed three full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. or equivalent degree. OR Have successfully completed an LL.M. degree that is related to the position being filled.
