Materials Handler Washington, District of Columbia Summary This position is located in the Collections Maintenance & Stack Management Section, Collections Management Division, Preservation Directorate, Discovery And Preservation Services. The position description number for this position is 063840. The incumbent for this position will work a Full Time - Fixed Schedule from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. This is a non-supervisory, bargaining unit position. Relocation expenses will not be authorized for the person(s) selected under this vacancy announcement. Duties Responsible for the orderly relocation and realignment of both general and special library collections, ensuring strict adherence to shelving accuracy and shelfload specifications. This role requires a deep understanding of growth potential for serials and monographs, as well as the unique requirements for various collection classes. Works with a high degree of independence in determining sequences of loading and unloading booktrucks and other conveyances containing Library collections, equipment and supplies. Participates in developing space utilization plans and implementing the movement of materials from one area to another. which may involve intra- or interbuilding transport. Shifts the various collections to relieve congestion, including materials in non-book formats, such as moving image and recorded sound. Assists in the erection of security cages for Library materials. Following agency regulations, coordinates storage and space utilization for a specific product line, commodity, or equipment group. specifically in a library setting, for library collections, supplies and related equipment and hardware.
