Staff Optometrist-Recruitment/Relocation Incentive-Education Debt Reduction Program Approved Multiple Locations Summary This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific eligibility requirements per VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program Approval, award amount (up to $200,000) & eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after review of the EDRP application. Former EDRP participants ineligible to apply. Duties The Staff Optometrist provides comprehensive patient care, and participates in clinical activities relevant to the service. The role involves working collaboratively with the optometry team, including supporting the Chief Optometrist and other senior staff. Key responsibilities include delivering high-quality optometric care, assisting in the education of medical and optometry students, and contributing to performance improvement activities within the service. The Staff Optometrist focuses on providing care for ocular disease within the scope of Optometry. The majority of the Staff Optometrist's time is dedicated to direct patient care and contributing to service excellence. While most work occurs at the primary duty station, travel and work at other sites may occasionally be required to meet the needs of the West Texas VA Health Care System (WTVAHCS). Interest and willingness to participate in academic research and education are encouraged. The successful candidate must excel in teamwork, coordinating activities efficiently with ancillary staff, and effectively supporting the optometry team.
