Social Worker - HUD-VASH Housing Specialist New Orleans, Louisiana Summary This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific individual eligibility requirements in accordance with VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program Approval, award amount (up to $200,000) and eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after complete review of the EDRP application. Duties Total Rewards of a Allied Health Professional Function or scope of assigned duties: The Housing Specialist provides housing lists for veterans, conducts housing seminars, and is basically a housing resource person for veterans who are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless. Direct housing search includes, but is not limited to, driving Veterans to or meeting Veterans at housing units both for viewing and walk-through purposes, providing housing lists to Veterans This will require coordination between the VA program and facility leadership, Public Housing Authority (PHA) executive leadership, independent landlords as well as rental associations, community and government agency executive leadership, and/or leadership of corporations involved with the development of affordable housing. The Housing Specialist is responsible for providing social work services for a caseload of veterans in the HUD- VASH program. The Housing Specialist is responsible for reviewing agreements between Section 8, landlords, Public Housing Authorities and the VA in establishing appropriate referral sites for HUD-VASH placements. The Housing Specialist performs site visits of HUD- VASH apartments
