Physician (Assistant Chief of Medical Service/Emergency Department Director) Hampton, Virginia Summary The Hampton Veterans Affairs Medical Center (HVAMC) is a level 2 facility; the Emergency Department (ED) provides care to both ambulatory and critically ill patients. The work to be performed must be provided by a physician who is certified by either the American Board of Emergency Medicine or the American Board of Osteopathic Emergency Medicine. Must have unrestricted medical license and be ACLS Certified. Director will provide oversight to the day to day operations of the ED. Duties This is an OPEN CONTINUOUS ANNOUNCEMENT and will remain open until December 14, 2026 or until all positions are filled. VA offers a comprehensive total rewards package. Major Duties and Responsibilities to include but not be limited to: Clinical Responsibilities (75%) Provide direct patient care specific to subspecialty in the inpatient and ambulatory clinic settings. Provide timely screening and resolution of consultations from other disciplines in the inpatient and outpatient settings. Provide a full range of therapeutic interventions specific to subspecialty including endoscopic procedures to units/programs in the Medical Center to which they are assigned and have clinical privileges to practice including diagnostic assessment, medication evaluation and management. Order diagnostic tests and discriminate between normal and abnormal findings and makes appropriate treatment decisions.
