MECHANICAL ENGINEER Multiple Locations Summary This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD Workforce to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service. About the Position: This position functions under the general supervision of the Resident Engineer who assigns work in terms of priorities and specific construction requirements prior to construction activities. Duties Serves as liaison between User, Contractor, Architect/Engineer Design Firms, area Offices, District, Division, and USACE, and other Technical Centers of Expertise. Acts as a District consultant and expert advisor in resolving novel, extremely technical state-of-the-art, unusual and controversial mechanical engineering matters. Determines feasibility and plans methods to be used for accomplishing modifications to suit local conditions and changing requirements of using agency, national and local mechanical requirements and revisions there to occurring during construction. Develops alternate designs, concepts and plans, or changes as necessary, Reviews shop drawings, equipment specifications, and design analyses from contractors Recommends changes to codes or manufacturers specifications, equipment, and systems based upon research and development to meet mission requirements. Performs on-site inspections of construction operations throughout District activities to define problems and devise or initiate alternative course of action. Provides recommendations to personnel from higher authority to effect corrective actions to problem areas disclosed as result of inspections. Investigates and analyzes possible design and criteria modifications for overall improvements in systems, to determine requirements for new systems.
