This position is also being announced to applicants eligible to apply through Merit Staffing procedures under 26-VAE-EB-12977034-ST Duties If selected for this position, you will join a well-respected team as a Legal Assistant with the United States Attorney's Office in the Eastern District of Virginia. Typical work assignments will include: Conducting a variety of grand jury administrative duties associated with grand jury operations, i.e., transcribes, prepares and distributes both complex confidential legal correspondence, maintains files, logs, complaints, transcripts, reports and other confidential records of grand jury proceedings. Assembling all necessary information for presentation of indictments, and obtaining documentation or other records required for presentation of a case to the grand jury. Scheduling appearances, coordinating returns of indictments, including witnesses, returns, and arraignments. Reviewing case information, or related factual information, to assist support staff, attorneys, and agents in planning and executing legal strategies. Ensuring grand jury materials and federal tax information by maintaining the security of Grand Jury files and records. Responsibilities will increase and assignments will become more complex as your training and experience progress.
