Engineer I - Systems New London, CT, US Overview Department Name: COLUMBIA Non-Propulsion I&C & Power Directorate: COLUMBIA Electrical Systems The D478 Engineers are responsible for supporting a wide variety of electrical systems across the following areas; instrumentation and control, auxiliaries, power distribution, and lighting systems. The D478 engineers are also responsible for development of internal cableways and cable routes for COLUMBIA class submarines, shock motion calculations, and component stress analysis. D478 Engineer's responsibilities include; computer based modeling, development/review of functional requirements documents, system descriptions, equipment procurement specifications, equipment qualification, drawing development, review of cable routing and support of 3D ship design. Functional Areas and Descriptions HM&E Interior Communication Systems: Interior communication systems include the design and development of flow meters, guided wave radars, liquid level switches, and control panels used within the various interior communication systems. Interior communication systems include but are not limited to fluids, air, entertainment, hull and ship handling, and diesel generator. Lighting Systems: Auxiliary systems include the design and development of the motor controllers and control panels used within the various auxiliary systems.
