About this role

Engineer I - Mechanical Groton, CT, US Overview D435 Main Propulsion Machinery is in search of a SSN(X) class Propulsor and Shafting entry level Engineer. Engineers in this group will be responsible for providing high quality and efficient engineering and design services to both the Navy Propulsor and Shafting Team. Engineers will also be responsible for the project management and oversight of design and development of the propulsor and main propulsion shafting components including the main shaft, shaft seals and housings, and bearing systems. The group will support concept design development and engineering studies for propulsor/shafting-specific programs sponsored by the Naval Surface Warfare Center Carderock Division and the Office of Naval Research. The group frequently works with other members of the Navy Propulsor and Shafting Team including Electric Boat's shock, hydrodynamics, and ship signatures departments, Pennsylvania State University Applied Research Laboratory, and Navy laboratories. Qualifications Requirements: Bachelor of Science in Mechanical, Structural, Marine or Aerospace Engineering. 0-5 years of post-graduate engineering experience in defense, aerospace, marine, or manufacturing environments. Experience with mechanical engineering principles including rotating machinery, fastener design, structural strength evaluations, and analytic and numerical analysis methods.
