About this role

Supervisory Accountant Houston, Texas Summary The position is in the Accounting and Voucher Audit section of Fiscal Service and performs professional and technical accounting work and provides advisory financial services. The position has primary responsibility for establishing and maintaining a complex integrated system of financial system and services which contributes to the effective management control over the facility operations. These services include financial accounting, internal controls, voucher audit, and financial analysis. Duties Follows Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) to identify problematic areas. Reconciles General Ledger and subsidiary accounts. Coordinates data with other services and provides professional technical accounting advice and assistance. Reconciles monthly work in process, patient funds, suspense, matching and general ledger accounts and reports out of balance conditions. Performs reporting and effectively communicates findings with various managers and supervisors from differing fields and educational levels. Complies, prepares, and verifies detailed reports on a timely basis with informative reporting that discloses all essential financial facts. Analyzes general ledger data for accuracy and timeliness. Trains and provides corrective updates. Communicates closely and monitors revenue, facilities, and logistics staff in reconciling fixed assets, accounts receivable, and other reports. Performs written action plan responses in a coherent, understandable manner & format. Responses are communicated to manager/leaders across VHA with answers to questions being provided promptly and without argument. Processes data entries in an accrual-based system encompassing a full range of assets, liabilities, and expenses.
