Staff Physician (Emergency Room) Hampton, Virginia Summary Staff Physician (Emergency Room) This is an OPEN CONTINUOUS ANNOUNCEMENT and will remain open until September 30 2026 or until all positions are filled. The initial cut-off date for referral of eligible applications will be 5 June 2026. Eligible applications received after that date will be referred at regular intervals or as additional vacancies occur on an as-needed basis until positions are filled. Duties Staff Physician (Emergency Medicine) Clinical Responsibilities (100%) Perform assessments and/or examinations on encounters with all present patients Order and interpret appropriate diagnostic tests necessary to complete the ED evaluation Provide Attending Physician oversight to residents, mid-level providers as applicable Stabilize all critically ill or injured patients Determine whether admission to the hospital is necessary or if patient may be safely discharged from the ED with appropriate follow-up Discuss treatment plan with patient and/or family/caregiver (following COBRA guidelines) Perform medication reconciliation with all patients Participate in Quality Assurance, chart reviews, and support applicable ED performance measures Coordinate patient care with consultants as deemed appropriate Emergency Department physicians will support the safety, occupational health, and fire protection program by the application of approved standards, regulations, practices and work methods Emergency Department Physicians will report to the Assistant Chief, Medical Service VA offers a comprehensive total rewards package.
