This is an external announcement open to all US citizens. This occupation is listed on the VHA's Occupational Staffing Shortages list for this fiscal year through 9/30/2026. This vacancy announcement is exempt from Veterans Preference. Current permanent VA/Federal employees may apply under announcement CBTC-12937362-26-AF to receive internal consideration. Duties This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific eligibility requirements per VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program Approval, award amount (up to $200,000) & eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after review of the EDRP application. Former EDRP participants ineligible to apply. The Social Worker in Mental Health selected for this position will need to have experience that demonstrates possession of advanced practice skills and judgment, especially in crisis intervention and working with an interdisciplinary team. They will be using short-term, solution focused counseling with individuals and families who may be in crisis as well as providing education and referral for resources and benefits, case management, and post-intervention follow-up.
