Registered Nurse - Inpatient Progressive Care Unit (PCU) Milwaukee, Wisconsin Summary The Milwaukee VA is looking for well-qualified Registered Nurses in the Progressive Care Unit (ICU Step Down, residing under the Acute Nursing Inpatient Division. The Progressive Care RN provides an increased level of nursing care that bridges the gap between the intensive care unit and medical-surgical units. Duties The Progressive Care Unit (PCU) Registered Nurse is responsible and accountable for all elements of the nursing process when providing and/or supervising direct patient care. These duties are, but not limited to: Providing, directing, and supervising the delivery of quality nursing care to veteran population of varying complexity in the Acute Nursing Care Division. This is done through providing an increased level of nursing care that bridges the gap between the intensive care unit and medical-surgical units. Possessing the knowledge and skills necessary to effectively apply all aspects of the nursing process within a collaborative and inter-professional practice setting. Effectively implementing health promotion and prevention interventions, managing acute and chronic illness states, assisting veterans in the attainment of optimal levels of functioning through rehabilitation, and providing supportive measures for the dying patient and their support system. Communicating and interacting respectfully and professionally with internal and external customers. Maintaining confidentiality of patient/employee information electronically, verbally, and written. Working and functioning within a safe manner including infection control and operation of equipment. Integrating and applying pertinent aspects of the Medical Center performance improvement program into his/her professional practice. Utilizing nursing research, evidence-based practice
