Nursing Assistant - Progressive Care Unit Lexington, Kentucky Summary This full-time Nursing Assistant position is organizationally aligned under Patient Care Services in the Progressive Care Unit (PCU) at the Lexington VA Health Care System, a two-divisional teaching hospital affiliated with the University of Kentucky (UK) Medical Center. The primary work location is the Bowling Campus, with occasional assignments at the Sousley Campus as needed. Duties The incumbent serves as an active member of the nursing team, with responsibilities including: - Providing basic nursing care and following standardized procedures. - Performing tasks based on patient data and information. - Adapting assignments according to area needs during the shift and covering routine functions. - Assisting RNs with patient care, including obtaining vital signs, electrocardiograms (proper lead placement for monitoring), phlebotomy, and simple wound dressings. - Managing specialized equipment pertinent to the unit. - Covering assignments in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) as patient workload requires. - May be assigned to a designated group of patients or specific interventions as needed. Flexibility in covering both PCU and ICU is essential to meet patient care demands. The position is hired on a rotating shift schedule; assignment to day or night shifts is based on unit needs and staff seniority. The current need is for night shift coverage. Over time, the selectee may transition to the day shift, depending on seniority and availability, though no specific timeframe can be guaranteed.
