Medical Technician (Blood Banking) Toledo, Ohio Summary This position is located in the Pathology and Laboratory Medicine Service at the at VA Ann Arbor Healthcare System - Toledo VA Clinic in Toledo, OH. The Medical Technician (Blood Banking) primarily serves as a phlebotomist in the clinical laboratory and secondly as a Specimen Processor for specimens run at the TCBOC and Send Out testing. Duties ***THIS IS NOT A VIRTUAL POSITION, YOU MUST LIVE WITHIN OR BE WILLING TO RELOCATE WITHIN A COMMUTABLE DISTANCE OF THE DUTY LOCATION*** DESIGNATED DRUG-TESTING POSITION: Applicants tentatively selected for VA employment in a testing designated position are subject to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment. Applicants who refuse to be tested will be denied employment with VA. Applicants will not be appointed to the position if a verified positive drug test result is received. The Medical Technician is responsible for ensuring accurate and respectful patient care during specimen collection and processing. Key duties include verifying patient identity, using proper collection techniques, accurately labeling specimens, and treating patients with professionalism and care. The role also involves specimen processing, including centrifuging and aliquoting blood and urine samples, while ensuring proper handling and storage of specimens. Major duties and responsibilities include but not limited to: Performing venipuncture procedures in clinic and outpatient settings, including collecting blood specimens from patients with varying medical conditions using appropriate collection techniques Verifying patient identity and specimen information by following established identification procedures to ensure accurate specimen collection, labeling,
