About this role

Civil Engineer (Structural) - DIRECT HIRE Lakewood, Colorado Summary This position is in the Technical Services Branch of the Central Federal Lands Highway Division and responsible for performing duties related to designing and developing plans, specifications, and estimates for bridges, large culverts, viaducts, and retaining walls on federally owned lands in a multi-state area. The incumbent serves as technical expert and project team leader by developing and applying sound inspection, design, construction, and rehabilitations related to structures. Duties As a Civil Engineer (Structural - Senior Structural Design Engineer), you will: Interpret and apply relevant structural codes for design, construction, testing, and maintenance of structures, including seismic design and retrofit. Develop or lead the development of plans, specifications and estimates (PS&E) for bridges and recommend the selection of safe and economical bridge types and designs, site selection, structure locations, and structural adequacy. Develop preliminary plans for structures that show type, size, and location (TS&L) of the proposed structures. Use advanced analysis to help develop novel design concepts for both new construction and rehabilitation, as needed, to address project needs and advance the state of the practice. Mentor and provide training to staff in the Structures Discipline as well as to others performing structures related work (e.g. construction inspection of bridge elements). The ideal candidate is an experienced engineer with a strong background in bridge design, rehabilitation of existing bridges, and structural engineering support during the construction phase of a project and is a good communicator that enjoys working in a team
