About this role

MATERIALS ENGINEER TECHNICIAN Naval Research Laboratory, District of Columbia Summary You will serve as a Materials Engineer Technician in the Naval Research Lab, Offboard Countermeasures Branch of NAVAL RESEARCH LABORATORY. Duties You will build and test small airborne, surface, and subsurface experimental robotic and autonomous systems for use as offboard countermeasures. You will design and develop new unmanned systems You will fabricate test hardware such as wind tunnel models, test fixtures, and multi-domain autonomous systems test vehicles. You will identify and implement methods of improving designs for prototype fabrication and development. You will support experimental test efforts including wind tunnel testing, flight testing and at-sea testing. You will maintain and upkeep the composite shop, prototyping lab, and test lab to include maintaining cleanliness, tracking and replenishing inventory, supplies, and equipment, and keeping compliance with EEO/Safety and other regulations/policies. Education In addition to the Specialized Experience above, applicants must meet the following Basic Requirements of the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualifications Standards Manual: Applicants must possess one or both of the following: Specialized Experience (for positions at GS-4 or equivalent and above): Examples of qualifying specialized experience include technical work in: drafting, surveying construction estimating, physical science, mathematics, aerospace, architecture, chemicals, electrical or mechanical systems, mining, petroleum, or nuclear systems. Experience in a trade or craft may be credited as specialized experience when the work provided intensive knowledge of engineering principles, techniques, methods, and precedents.
