About this role
Railroad Repairer Concord, California Summary About the Position: The Incumbent will perform work for a U.S. Army Transportation Battalion (Ammunition), Directorate of Public Works (DPW), Maintenance of Way (MOW) Division. Duties Conduct inspections of approximately 42 miles of railroad track and associated appurtenances to identify deviations in cross-level, gage, profile, and alignment. Investigate railroad accidents and derailments to determine causes; and inspect tracks and equipment to identify the location and possible causes of derailment. Conduct preventive maintenance and repair on standard gauge railroad track and on various railroad equipment and appurtenances. Perform maintenance and repair duties while operating rail mounted hydraulic equipment. Prepare track inspection reports identifying necessary corrective action and conduct follow-up inspections as appropriate. Perform or direct a work crew in re-railing to safely put the cars or engine back on tracks. Education Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone -- no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
