Merchant Mariner Course Evaluator (Engine) Miami, Florida Summary This vacancy is for a GS-2101-12, Merchant Mariner Course Evaluator (Engine) located in the Department of Homeland Security, U.S. Coast Guard, OPERATING LOCATION-NMC MARINER COURSE APPROVALS BR-MIAMI FL in MIAMI, Florida. Duties You will serve as a Merchant Mariner Course Evaluator (Engine) and be responsible for serving as a maritime subject matter expert for "engine" related maritime operations, training and qualifications. The incumbent conducts analytical studies to ensure that the Coast Guard maintains a valid system of approved standards in competence, proficiency, examination, licensing, and documentation of merchant marine engine personnel, for officer and rating. Being a Coast Guard civilian makes you a valuable member of the Coast Guard team. Typical work assignments include: Evaluate and approve maritime training courses and programs for regulatory compliance Analyze and interpret maritime laws, regulations, and policies relevant to mariner credentialing Provide authoritative guidance and responses to internal and external stakeholders Develop and recommend solutions for issues affecting course approval and mariner licensing Communicate complex regulatory requirements clearly in written and oral formats Maintain up-to-date knowledge of U.S. and international maritime standards and best practices Prepare professional correspondence and technical material on maritime training and credentialing Reasonable Accommodation (RA) Requests: If you believe you have a disability (i.e., physical or mental), covered by the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 as amended that would interfere with completing the USA Hire Competency Based Assessments, you will be granted the opportunity to request a RA in your online application.
