About this role
Water/Wastewater Design Engineer Join CDM Smith's Manchester team and build your career in the water and wastewater industry alongside industry‑leading experts. You will have the opportunity to work on some of the region's largest and most complex water infrastructure projects, while benefiting from strong technical mentorship, professional development, and clear paths for growth. In this role, you'll contribute to the planning and design of water, wastewater, and environmental infrastructure projects, working collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams and supporting projects from concept through delivery. Key Responsibilities Under limited supervision, develop engineering designs of basic to moderate complexity for water and wastewater treatment facilities, water and sewer systems, pipelines, pump stations, remediation sites, and solid waste facilities. Review design documents and technical reports to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, as well as firm standards and best practices. Conduct site visits, field reviews, and technical studies to confirm design assumptions and location‑specific requirements. Update design criteria and technical requirements as project needs evolve. Perform water quality analyses and modeling to support planning and design decisions. Contribute to the firm's Technical Knowledge Management (TKM) program by developing white papers, documenting innovative or specialized designs, and sharing lessons learned. Prepare and submit technical papers, design documentation, and presentations for publication in industry journals and forums. Collaborate with business development and sales teams to support proposals and responses to requests for proposal (RFPs).
