The Developer Productivity organization plays a vital role in enabling MongoDB engineers to ship products that meet our high company standards. The Build Team focuses on ensuring that our code is able to be packaged and shipped for all supported operating systems and architectures. We are responsible for ensuring that this build happens consistently, quickly, and correctly, and that we do as much as possible to ensure performance and correctness of the resulting binaries. Tooling changes can have a substantial impact on the final product we ship to customers, with tooling changes recently yielding a 10% improvement in the overall performance of the MongoDB database. Under the hood we use the Bazel build system in order to meet these goals and to handle the multi-language nature of code shipped at MongoDB.
