Member of the Technical Staff, Interpretability
Output Biosciences - New York HQ 🗽Indexed from Ashbyposted 62 days agoWhy we showed this
Employer: semantic matchEmployer: "biosciences"+1
Unspecified Engineering From the posting source - Staff Plus From the posting source Salary not disclosedMember of the Technical Staff, Interpretability New York HQ 🗽 Output has built a biological reasoning model that understands biology at the scale and complexity life actually operates. Our model independently learned the principles of molecular interactions, opening up drug treatments that were previously impossible. We're already generating therapies that traditional approaches cannot reach. The hardest problems in both AI and biology are being solved here, and there is room for you to own one. Output is currently in stealth, operated by a team of repeat founders and biotech veterans with multiple exits in AI x Bio, and backed by top-tier VCs including Y Combinator. You will continue developing methods to understand what our foundation model learns about biology, and build the tools that make it a glass box model. We believe that in biology, a model's reasoning must be visible. And the features you find are not just explanations: they expand what the model can do. - You will continue developing our methods for probing and reverse-engineering the model's learned representations, understanding how it encodes biological information across molecular scales - You will design and run experiments to identify and characterize capabilities, mapping what the model has learned about molecular interactions and biological function - You will build methods to extract the model's biological understanding as explicit, usable outputs that downstream systems and researchers can act on - You will create tools that connect model internals to meaningful biological concepts, making the model's reasoning interpretable to scientists and useful

We're entering the era of agentic science where AI models can now design novel proteins, propose hypotheses, and iterate on experimental results. But they can't run the experiments themselves - that's still a manual, months-long process. We're building the infrastructure that gives AI agents access to the physical world. We are one of the fastest growing biotech companies, trusted by leading biopharmas, frontier AI labs, and the techbio companies pushing the field forward. This is a rare chance to help advance some of the most important work happening in biotech today. Our automated lab is powered by a deep software + hardware stack: lab instruments worth millions of USD reverse-engineered into API-controllable hardware, dozens of devices orchestrated through complex workflows, full observability on everything that happens in the lab, processing pipelines for messy physical-world data, and AI systems that troubleshoot production results and accelerate assay development. We're growing rapidly and are hiring for talented people to scale and support the massive demand for AI-driven wet lab experimentation. ABOUT THE ROLE This is an internship for an exceptional molecular biologist who wants to do the most serious work of their life so far. You won't shadow people or run busywork - you'll own real production workflows: cloning, protein expression, purification, and characterization, on the systems that serve our customers every day. Title: semantic matchRole: semantic matchScientist, Mechanistic Biology San Francisco, CA tl;dr General Proximity is a seed-stage startup developing the next generation of induced proximity medicines (IPMs). Our OmniTAC drug discovery engine furnishes molecules that co-opt existing cellular machinery to overcome therapeutic challenges, which have remained unapproachable to other modalities for decades. We are seeking a first-rate mechanistic biologist to help us pioneer this uncharted frontier of drug discovery. Our Story A long-standing challenge in drug discovery is the development of molecules capable of modulating difficult or "undruggable" targets. Disease-causing proteins can be dysfunctional in many different ways, but our armamentarium for fixing them is quite limited. The most common mechanism of action for FDA-approved drugs is inhibition [1] , but there are many other possible perturbation types whose potential remains unrealized. General Proximity is a seed-stage drug discovery company developing a novel platform technology to solve this problem. We make bifunctional drugs that induce the modification of drug targets by existing cellular machinery (rather than through direct modulation by the drug, the classical approach). Historically, the development of technologies that allow one to push new buttons in biology has been an incredibly fertile field for the discovery of new medicines[ 2 , 3 , 4 ], and our technology holds the same promise. The Position We are seeking an experienced mechanistic biologist to join our Discovery Biology Team. In this position, you will work closely with our Platform and Chemistry Teams to drive mechanistic understanding of our lead compounds and support core drug discovery
