This position is located in one of the Smithsonian Institution's facilities serviced by the Office of Facilities Management (FM) and is 3rd shift only, 11:00pm-7:30am. The Office of Facilities Management (FM) is responsible for all Smithsonian facilities, many of which are designated as historic and all of which are visited by millions of people each year. Duties As a Utility Systems Repairer-Operator (HVAC Technician), you perform wood crafting, electrical work, painting, masonry, sheet metal, pipefitting, and roofing repairs for the construction, alteration, repair, and technical support of facilities within the zone. In this position, you will: Operate, perform predictive and preventive maintenance on, and repair equipment and component parts of refrigeration, air-conditioning, heating, high pressure steam distribution, humidification systems, and boiler systems. Install, recognize the cause of faulty equipment, and repair, modify and relocate equipment that provides specific and critical conditions in laboratories and special purpose facilities. Perform maintenance to equipment, make adjustment and repairs to equipment and control systems to ensure proper and efficient operation. Test, detect and diagnose trouble in heating and air-conditioning systems and take corrective action. Assure the continuous operation and surveillance of the computers in the Central Control Room, analyze printout data and alarms and assure appropriate remedial actions are taken.
