About this role
Design Engineering Specialist II Houston, TX, United States Working both independently and within project teams, is responsible and accountable for a variety of softgoods developed technical solutions, specifically for applications in the space environment and high-temperature space launch vehicles. Functions Understands and uses the fundamentals for softgoods applications, including design development to technical specifications, concept model generation, preliminary structural assessment, drawing and pattern generation and formatting requirements. Determines the design concept and/or system approach based on evaluation of detailed requirements or performance specifications. Assists in the definition and determination of applicable softgood materials with knowledge of fabric types and construction techniques. Defines test and certification requirements and parameters, prepares and carries out detailed plans, and evaluates results to determine compliance. Works in conjunction with design / drafting personnel to generate softgoods drawings and associated patterns required for fabrication. Generates fabrication process steps and sequencing in production documentation. Coordinates with softgoods manufacturing personnel during production to resolve issues and answer design related questions. Knowledge in aerospace engineering and thermal protection systems. Assists the Project Manager in the support of the customer, including preparation of proposals, change requests, design reviews, and other requirements related to the design effort. Coordinates with internal functional departments, as required, to resolve technical and engineering process issues or concerns.
