About this role

CNC Machinist 1st Class Milling & Turning Hanover, MD, United States Duties and Responsibilities Independently set up CNC lathes and mills, including fixture installation and tool selection. Optimize machining parameters and make program edits directly at the machine. Produce high-quality parts within defined timeframes and tolerances Accurately read and interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and GD&T requirements. Translate design intent into effective machining strategies. Utilize Mastercam or equivalent CAM software to generate and modify CNC programs. Collaborate with management and engineering to improve manufacturability and reduce cycle times. Design and fabricate custom fixtures and tooling to support complex machining operations. Recommend tooling improvements to enhance process stability and repeatability. Perform dimensional inspections using micrometers, calipers, height gauges, and other precision instruments. Document self-inspection results and proactively address non-conformances. Conduct routine maintenance and minor repairs on machining equipment. Report equipment issues promptly and support root cause analysis for recurring problems. Safely operate overhead cranes, gantries, and forklifts to move materials and components. Adhere to all safety protocols and contribute to a culture of safety and accountability. Provide guidance and training to entry-level machinists. Share best practices and support cross-functional problem-solving initiatives. REQUIRED High school diploma or equivalent, or one to three years formal training (vocation or technical school), Five years previous experience in a machine shop with CNC machine operation. Strong familiarity with Machine Shop Safety and OSHA requirements. Ability to program, set up, and operate all conventional and CNC lathes and mills.
