About this role
Research Space Scientist, AST, Planetary Studies (Direct Hire) Moffett Field, California Summary You will serve as a Space Scientist in a vibrant Astrophysics Branch at the NASA Ames Research Center (ARC) to conduct research in formation and evolution of prebiotic organics in space, and explore the role of astrochemistry in the origin of life using quantum chemistry techniques. The Astrophysics Branch has a world-class laboratory astrophysics group, exoplanet technologies group, modeling and computational group. Duties Conducts, coordinates, and leads studies of molecular formation and destruction in space and novel chemistry of evolution of complex organic molecules in astrophysical environments using the techniques of ab initio quantum chemistry. Serves as liaison for interdisciplinary research work between astrobiology and astrophysics to support NASA missions, such as Habitable Worlds Observatory. Leads and promotes collaborations across the NASA ARC scientific staff. Works well with others in a team environment to achieve goals and engendering team spirit and commitment. Obtains and manages resources and identifies strategic objectives for the organization. Disseminates research results through peer-reviewed publications, workshops, and scientific conferences. Education Basic Education Requirement: You must have successfully completed a bachelor's degree with a major in one of the following: a) Engineering from a college or university that has ABET accredited engineering programs b) Physical Science, Mathematics, Life Science or other field of Science c) Computer Science that included 30 semester hours or 45 quarter hours of course work in any combination of mathematics, statistics and computer science with at least half of those hours
