About this role

Engineer IV General Atomics Electromagnetic Systems (GA-EMS) designs and manufactures first-of-a-kind electromagnetic and electric power generation systems. GA-EMS' expanding portfolio of specialized products and integrated system solutions support critical fleet, space systems and satellites, missile defense, power and energy, and process and monitoring applications for defense, industrial, and commercial customers worldwide. We have an exciting opportunity within General Atomics - Electromagnetic Systems Group for an Electrical Engineer specializing in Power Systems , located in Rancho Bernardo, CA. This role involves the development and design of advanced power systems, including transformer design, motor controllers, power supplies, megawatt-scale inverters, and other high-performance components for Electromagnetic Aircraft Launch Systems (EMALS). The successful candidate will bring expertise in energy storage, power conditioning, and high-voltage applications as recognized within the industry. Under general direction with limited review, this position is responsible for applying innovative approaches to resolving complex engineering challenges related to power systems. Assignments are outlined in terms of overall objectives and reviewed largely at completion. The engineer will initiate project planning and develop innovative designs to meet goals, while independently performing challenging engineering work with clear expectations. Responsibilities include documenting findings, presenting technical results, and representing the organization as the prime technical contact on small contracts or single-component projects.
