Launching Gantry Crane Operator Surrey, BC, CA Overview Launching Gantry Operator Position Overview A Launching Gantry Operator is responsible for operating specialized launching gantry cranes used in bridge and viaduct construction. These machines place heavy precast segments from above, especially in areas with difficult terrain or limited ground access. The operator ensures safe lifting, precise placement, equipment inspection, coordination with ground crews, and adherence to strict safety standards. What you will be doing Key Responsibilities Operation of Launching Gantry Equipment Operate the launching gantry to lift, move, and accurately position precast bridge segments along girders and piers. Manipulate controls to regulate speed, direction, and hoist movement according to written, verbal, or signal instructions. Conduct segment placement in span‑by‑span, incremental launching, or balanced‑cantilever erection methods as required by project design. Inspection, Maintenance & Pre‑Operational Checks Perform daily inspections of structural components, hoisting systems, cables, hydraulic systems, electrical elements, and safety mechanisms. Address wear, corrosion, or damage immediately to ensure safe operation. Complete routine maintenance tasks and maintain accurate logs of operations and maintenance activities. Load Management & Safety Control Calculate and verify correct load distribution to prevent structural overload and ensure system stability.
