Legislative Analyst Pentagon, Arlington, Virginia Summary This position is located in the Office of the Assistant Secretary of War for Legislative Affairs (OASW/LA). The ASW(LA) serves as the principal adviser and assistant to the Secretary of War for all matters concerned with the formulation of national security and defense policy in the Congress and in engagements between the Office of the Secretary of War and the legislative branch. This position is assigned to serve as a Legislative Analyst in for the Personnel and Readiness Support Division. Duties Incumbent typical work assignments may include the following: Analyzes and evaluates major aspects of substantive, mission-oriented OASW(LA) programs. Establishes and maintains close and effective liaison relationships with principal executives and officials of those bodies mentioned plus key staff members of various Congressional committees and subcommittees. Serves as a key legislative liaison to DoD and executives on issues impacting the offices within. This includes contacts throughout the Office of the Secretary of War, the Joint Staff, Secretariates of the Military Departments, Directors of Defense Agencies, and other Executive Agencies. Analyzes conflicting and divergent viewpoints in order to provide full and accurate background information along with options for courses of action.
